I met Chase last January through being on the Executive Board for raiseRED, which if you aren't aware is a year long student run philanthropic organization at the University of Louisville to raise money for the University of Louisville pediatric oncology and hematology clinic. Chase started going to this very clinic after being diagnosed with Wilm's Tumor, which only occurs in children's kidneys. Sadly, Chase lost her right kidney, but received her last round of chemotherapy on January 10th, and as of a few weeks ago Chase has been officially 6 months cancer free! From the moment we met, we just clicked and shared a bond that has continued to grow and I owe it all to raiseRED. She's my hero. Recently, I was given the opportunity to work Katy Perry's meet and greet at her concert tomorrow, August 16th, thanks to my awesome friend Joe Clark at the Yum! Center.
I asked Joe about getting Chase tickets because I knew how much she loved Katy Perry and I just wanted to give back to her and her mother. So Joe had me email him my story with Chase and he sent it to his General Manager at the Yum! Center, and it was just a dream come true from there. This is just one example of the amazing relationships the rest of the E-Board has made with the children from the clinic, and we don't plan to stop here. During the coming weeks we are planning to have a "date" with Chase every other Saturday, and I encourage all of our dancers to make positive relationships with the children they are dancing for as well. Not only is Chase a cancer survivor, but her and mom try to give back to the cancer community any chance they can. I honestly can't thank God enough for putting Chase in my life, she is the biggest inspiration I can ask for.
